Style over 50 > what to wear to a poetry event

Heads up…this is not any old poetry reading, we’re coming together for the most fabulous Rupi Kaur!   Her tour looks so wonderfully fun and fabulous.  Does.It.Not?.  I’m turning up the excitement and planning what to wear.

As a stylist, you might think I would know exactly what to wear to a poetry event and might also have several options up my sleeve. But >> I have no idea what to wear to a poetry event, till I see it.  And that’s what happened here.

I came across the above image of the fabulous Jai Jai Fei in this stunningly sick Kehinde Wiley silk robe….oh man, I DIG! I immediately know when I see it, this is the inspiration. Very high vibe reaction, so silk robe it is :))

What to Wear to A Poetry Event

The silk robe pic is what immediately resonated with me for Rupi Kaur’s event.

It ticks all the boxes for what to wear to a poetry reading or a similar event where you’re mostly sitting.

• comfortable!  Last thing you wanna be doing is fidgeting in your chair.  And this piece felt very lux & comfy on.

• appropriate … Rupi Kaur is a fashion icon in her own rite.  She’s bringing it, then I’m bringing it lol.  Know your event, dress accordingly.

• I always give my look a test run and gauge how I feel. Feeling fab?  Then it’s on.

I was all over this when I received in the mail. Check it >> yo, no belt, no problem.

I stuck with the sash idea….the above are obi sashes made from vintage kimonos and a navy velvet sash off an old 3.1 Philip Lim vest.

Best thing about my new Opening Ceremony robe {aside from the serious lux silk feel}? the back!  I know, it’s no Kehinde Wiley, but love just the same and feelin like a champ lol
